Styling a simple spring porch with two untold decor secrets.

Imagine the first spring day you step outside without a jacket- the cool breeze on your arms, warm sun on your face. It makes you feel a little bit more alive after hibernating the long winter.

Little pops of yellow Easter Lillies (or daffodils/jonquils, as non-Appalachians say) on the banks and road sides, birds singing, blue skiesโฆ thereโs literally nothing I dislike about spring.

It should come as no surprise I really enjoy decorating our porch for every season- spring especially.
Keep reading to learn 2 decor tricks I’ve learned over the years to bring your porch to life!
Trick 1. Double up wreaths for a WOW factor.
Have you ever noticed the large, lavish wreaths in magazines? They are typically layers upon layers of jaw-dropping greenery and flowing florals. Using my “Double Up” trick, you can get the “magazine-look” with wreaths you already have on hand.

So why not just use a single wreath? Sometimes wreaths can be undersized for your door, or they might just need some extra oomph. *Says the girl who likes BIG wreaths…To compensate for a small/undersized wreath, I like to layer two wreaths on top of one another.
For my spring porch looks, the larger bottom layer is a 23″ Olive Wreath from Nearly natural. It makes a perfect base wreath. Or it can serve as a classic all-season wreath on its own.

The top floral wreath layer is the 20″ hydrangea peony wreath, which is also from nearly natural. I love how feminine and dainty the floral is for spring. The soft white just pops off of the doors beautifully.
Obviously, either of these wreaths could stand alone with ease. I just love the size and depth layering creates. It makes a WOW. You could try this hack with old wreaths that you have in storage to create a completely new look. Or you can click this link to purchase the exact wreaths I used on our porch.ย
Mix them up! Just be certain to use two different sized wreaths. I hung both of my wreaths on a single suction cup hook. Found here from Amazon, 9.99 pack of 2.

In this second porch design, I used the 23″ Olive Wreath and 20″ Lilac Wreath, both from Nearly Natural.
Trick 2. Don’t overlook your DOORMATS- layer them!
Doormats are a focal point on your porch with BIG impact. My family is hard on doormats…rural country life at its finest. Instead of replacing doormats constantly, I like these interchangeable liners from Ruggable. The seasonal liner is machine washable and stays in place with velcro holds inside the heavy rubber backing.

You can see how dirty the winter liner has become from one season of use. Into the washing machine it goes!

The rubber backing is a very heavy, quality mat with drain holes and velcro secure points.

The “Hop on In” liner is my favorite to use for spring until Easter. After the holiday, I will switch to the cheerful floral “Welcome” mat.

I also layer my doormat over an outdoor friendly rug. The added layer adds interest, size, and personality to our porch. I love that this rug is also washable! 3×5 Outdoor Gingham Plaid Rug from Ruggable, $129.
